Last night, Christie’s Latin American sale saw excellent results for Roberto Fabelo, Los Carpinteros, Manuel Mendive, and Tomás Sánchez.
Fabelo’s Omega 3 (2014; Lot 60) almost tripled its low estimate to reach $275,000. (All prices include buyer’s premium.) This is a new record for the artist, whose 2014 diptych, Ovo, set his previous high of $250,000 in the Christie’s sale last fall.
Lot 61, Catedral, a rare 1995 assemblage by Los Carpinteros (Dagoberto Rodríguez, Marco Castillo, Alexandre Arrechea), more than doubled its low estimate, hitting $456,500. This is a record price for the group.
Occuni (Lot 59), a 2003 painting by Manuel Mendive, was also outstanding, reaching $100,000.
Tomás Sánchez’s 2009 beautiful canvas, Visión de orilla (Lot 39), earned a solid $552,500, at the upper end of its $400,000–$600,000 estimate.
